Level: Novice Coach:
Kris Sherard
How I started skating: When I was 6 I was watching
skating on TV and told my mom I wanted to be just like the girls on TV. So I started skating with the Learn to Skate
program at Acord.
Favorite skater:
I don’t really know if I have a favorite. I
admire all the skaters who are involved in charity work, who use their stardom to help others. But I would have to say Scott
Hamilton. I have met him a couple of times and he has been really nice. He has done so much for figure skating both on and
off the ice. Even when he fought cancer he cared about other people.
Recipient of the "2005 Distinguished
Achievement Award" Octoberfest.
Favorite thing about skating: I love doing new
and different things. I like to "break out of the box." But all in all I love doing just about everything!
I am learning to do Death Drops and I think they are way cool. And I love to jump!
Least favorite thing about skating: I don’t
like falling, but then who does?! Oh, and moves in the field (but don’t tell Kris!)
Skating goals: To pass my junior and senior levels!
(and yes the moves in the field). I would like to be a coach some day; helping to shape the lives of other people is important
through hard work and dedication to whatever it is they want to be.
What else to know about me: I am a sophomore at
Tooele High School. I love to read Manga books. I love hanging with friends! I hope to go to Japan some day. I

Level: Novice
Coach: Holly Cook Tanner
How I started skating: Well, when Nationals came
to Utah in 1999, my family somehow managed to get tickets to a practice ice for women's short. Seeing figure skating so close
made my parents think it would be fun for us to learn how to skate. So they put us in basic skills and we all loved skating
so much my parents put all of us in private lessons.
Favorite skater: I have had many favorite skaters
over the years. Some of them have been Irina Slutskaya and Alexei Yagudin. I also got the special chance of flower sweeping
for Alexei Yagudin when he won the gold in the Olympics in 2002.
Favorite thing about skating: Well, I love skating
all around, but if I were to pick some things, I would pick jumping and performing. I love jumping and challenging myself
with harder jumps, and I just love performing!
Least favorite thing about skating: Hmm... that's
a hard one, but if I had to choose, it would probably be moves.
Skating goals: I have always had the goal
in skating to just have fun and never quit. But another goal I have is to finish all my tests up to gold level.
What else to know about me: Well, I attend the
University of Utah, where I am majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. I also love to teach skating and Pilates.

Level: Intermediate
Coach: Holly Tanner
How I started skating:
My sister and I both moved here from Indiana and started
Learn to Skate together. She did not like it as much because her butt would be in pain. I always felt amazing and was so excited
to get on the ice and so I kept going. When my first competition came I got first place and that is when I really started to love this sport and I will never forget that feeling.
Favorite skater: I love watching Kristi
Yamaguchi. But I just love watching skating in general. I really don't have a favorite.
Favorite thing about skating: My favorite thing about
ice skating has to be the jumps because it feels like you are flying in the air. And the feeling of landing a new jump after
all the falls.
Least favorite thing about skating: Bad
performances because you feel so disappointed and that you could have done better.
Skating goals: To
catch up on all my jumps and to do well in my performances.
What else to know about me: I am in eighth grade at Bountiful Junior High. I
love to draw, color, and eat. The other sport that I am passionate about is volleyball. And
I love hanging out with my friends. They make me laugh.

Kelsey Willden
Level: Senior
Coach: Kris Sherard, Tiffany Kennard, Holly
Tanner
How I started skating: My mom was always
putting me and my brothers in classes of some sort. When I was 10 she put me into Learn-to-Skate classes at the Rec. Center.
I guess it just kind of stuck. I fell in love with the sport immediately!
Favorite skater: Well, I admit I used to
have the BIGGEST crush on Todd Eldredge, but then I turned 15! I have always loved and admired Michelle Kwan. No one like
her will ever grace our sport again. She has shown more endurance, strength, and beauty than any other skater. I will also
admit that I love Kurt Browning for his contribution of humor to our sport.
Favorite
thing about skating: I love that I can completely be myself. When I perform I can show my personality, and have fun
doing what I love to do! I love that skating is unique. It takes a determined and ambitious person to excel at skating! When
I was at the U.S. National Collegiates, I wasn't completely prepared, but I was determined enough to skate a strong long program.
I did, and I ended up getting the bronze!
Least favorite thing about skating: I always
hated when I was completely prepared for a competition and I didn't perform my very best. It was always such a let down. It made me realize that
I have to work that much harder and always push myself.
Skating goals: My coaches and my family
helped me get to the Senior Level in both Moves and Freestyle, and that was one big goal for me. My goals now are to keep
performing in shows, and continue to coach skating. I am a staff coach at the Ogden Ice Sheet, and I love teaching my students
the same sport that I have loved all my life!

with Basic 2. I loved having my mom and my sister practice with me on public sessions. I was hooked and never looked back.
Favorite skater: Jozef Sabovcik, Michelle Kwan
Favorite
thing about skating: I love the hard work and the feeling of accomplishment each day as I could see my hard work
paying off. As a coach nothing pleases me more than to teach my students and watch them accomplish the same things I have
done. It feels just as satisfying as doing it yourself.
Least favorite thing about skating: I hate the
nerves before a competition or a show. I still get butterflies to this day when I am going to perform. Although it has taken
awhile, this is getting better. I think I have learned to control these feelings.

International Dance Medal. I have 8 dances to go. I also want to finish my free dance test.

me up for lessons and literally forced me to skate!
Favorite skater: Kristi Yamaguchi
Favorite thing about skating:
Jumping, I suppose. Although I have issues with some of my jumps, I think that it is still fun.
Least favorite thing about skating: Being graceful.
I have a hard time making myself appear to be graceful. I think it's hard, and it's not something that comes naturally to
me.

I can. Just trying my hardest is enough for me.
What else to know about me: In my spare time I enjoy
reading, writing, drawing, playing video games, watching movies, messing around on my computer, and hanging out with my friends.
